The city of music lives up to its name: here you can listen to live music all over the city, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You never know what show you might catch: from honky-tonk bands playing at the Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, to songwriters at the Bluebird Cafe, to country music legends performing at the Grand Ole Opry. The creative spirit of Nashville's music scene also flows through the area's myriad art galleries, the emerging fashion scene, historic landmarks, and restaurants run by top chefs.
Since we only had one day to see the city, we booked a private guided tour before leaving. Our eccentric driver, in perfect Nashville style, picked us up in a van and took us on a fascinating half-day tour of Nashville. You will see the Parthenon, the State Capitol (the city's Capitol), the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park (opened to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the State's founding), the recording studios where they say it's very easy to meet the most famous singers, downtown Nashville.... The guide will also take you on a photo tour where you can have your picture taken next to some of the city's most famous murals.
After the tour, I recommend taking a shopping trip on your own to Marathon Village. This is a cool spot for city shopping. Inside this former factory, you'll find some fancy shops and the Jack Daniel's General Store where you can taste and buy the famous Tennessee whiskey. Then continue for a dip into the downtown shops where it will be easy to find promotions like 3-for-2 on cowboy boots. Visit the local Hard Rock where there are beautiful souvenir t-shirts and small guitars you can use at home as fun ornaments. If you're a Harley enthusiast, you can't miss a stop at Boswell: the legendary Harley Davidson store where you'll find fantastic t-shirts as a souvenir of your stop in Nashville and beautiful and very original H.D. branded clothing items.
For the evening, the plan includes a tour of downtown venues to listen to some music and if, like me, you're a fan of line dance, you can go to the Wildhorse Saloon to dance while you enjoy your dinner.
