WHAT TO SEE IN SAPPORO

SAPPORO STATION AND JR TOWER

It is the main railway station of the city and is located right in the center. Multiple commercial spaces surround the station complex and offer great shopping opportunities. Inside the station is the access to the JR Tower where you can go up to the 38th floor at a height of 160 meters and enjoy a beautiful view of the city.

CLOCK TOWER

The Clock Tower (Tokeidai) is a symbol of Sapporo. The building was constructed during the early development period of the city in 1878 as the drill hall of the Sapporo Agricultural College. In 1881, a clock purchased in Boston was installed. You can visit the tower complex and discover, inside the museum, the reasons for the American influence on the city.

ODORI PARK

Odori Park (Odori Kōen) is located in the center of Sapporo and separates the city into north and south. The park stretches for about one and a half kilometers over more than twelve blocks and offers a pleasant green space during the warmer months. At the beginning of February, the park serves as the main site of the Snow Festival.
The park is full of well-kept flower beds and fountains. Don't miss the chance to taste a grilled corn cob that you can buy from street vendors.

SAPPORO TV TOWER
A short distance from Odori Park you will find the Sapporo TV Tower. Take the elevator and go up to the top to enjoy the view of the city. Have a souvenir photo taken that you can then buy as a keepsake to take home with you.

SUSUKINO

Susukino is the entertainment district. It is full of shops, bars, restaurants, karaoke rooms, pachinko parlors, and Japanese-style red-light venues.
It is lively and full of neon signs that light up at night. You can stop for a good dinner in an Italian restaurant, try a "camping" style dinner, or take a ride on the Ferris wheel mounted on top of a building.

SAPPORO BEER MUSEUM

Hokkaido is the birthplace of beer in Japan. Sapporo beer is one of the oldest and most popular brands in the country, produced in Sapporo since 1877 and sold worldwide. Sapporo Breweries opened the Beer Museum in 1987 in a former Meiji period brewery. The museum presents the history of beer in Japan and the brewing process, with explanations in English. After the visit, you can do a tasting for a small additional fee.

It is a must to stop and eat at the summer beer garden set up in the courtyard of the old, charming red brick factory, where beer and lamb yakiniku and vegetables are served, to be grilled at the table on a stove. A truly fun experience!

I recommend saving the visit to the beer museum as the last stop of your itinerary in the city. From here you can then conveniently head to the airport (by train or bus) by leaving your suitcase in the free lockers provided inside the museum.
