Lambeau Field Stadium
LAMBEAU FIELD STADIUM:
Certainly the most important attraction in the city is Lambeau Field stadium, home of the Green Bay Packers team.
It owes its name to the Packers, that is, the cheese packers who are very numerous in the state of Wisconsin, given the enormous volume of dairy production in the state. The name of the fans is curious: “Cheesehead” literally "Cheeseheads". The term “cheesehead” does not refer only to Green Bay fans, but to all the inhabitants of Wisconsin, called this way because of the huge production of cheddar cheese. It is very common to see fans at the stadium wearing cheese slices as headgear.
These are not the only peculiarities of this team. The Packers do not have a single owner, but 112,158: all the fans who have acquired a $200 share in the club. The last sale took place in 1997 and the yield of these shares is zero. Packers season ticket holders would not give up their seat in the stands for anything in the world, and it is not uncommon for the right of first refusal to be included in a will so it can be inherited by their children.
Watching a live game at Lambeau Field is a dream that every sports fan should be able to fulfill sooner or later, perhaps during a heated match like the one against the Chicago Bears. Every home game is an occasion to celebrate in front of the statue of Vince Lombardi. Coach Lombardi is the quintessence of football: 5 titles won in the 60s with the Packers, which are only a small part of his contribution to this sport. Italian-American from Brooklyn, survivor of the Great Depression, he managed to value the work ethic like no other coach. The Super Bowl trophy bears his name and in Green Bay his famous phrase: «Winners never quit and quitters never win» is a commandment carved in stone.
Entering the stadium, you immediately sense that it is truly huge and very modern. It is possible to take a guided tour with a member of the team staff. The guides are very knowledgeable and able to make the visit a truly special moment. The tour will allow you to see every corner of the stadium (except only the locker rooms), including the VIP room from which prominent personalities usually watch the game. These rooms are huge, equipped with kitchens and with enormous panoramic windows overlooking the field (you will feel like Cameron Diaz and Al Pacino in the movie "Any Given Sunday"). The entrance onto the field with background music, just like when the players enter the field, is really fun and exciting. The playing field is also immense, with very green and perfectly maintained grass.
After the stadium tour, I recommend you also stop by the shop where you will find all sorts of gadgets with the team logo.
