BEARTOOTH HIGHWAY
There are roads that are an integral part of a road trip, and the Beartooth Scenic Byway is definitely one of them!
Ranked as the most beautiful road in America, Highway 212, 110 kilometers long, between Wyoming and Montana, has everything to deserve this title. It was opened in 1937 and is certainly the most scenic and spectacular gateway to Yellowstone National Park. It covers an elevation gain of over 1,000 meters, reaching an altitude of 3,360 at Beartooth Pass, and for this reason, it is only open during the summer months. The road begins in the small town of Red Lodge, which is about 100 kilometers north of Cody and the same distance south of Billings, and ends at Cook City, crossing the Abarska-Beartooth mountain range. At the end of the route, you enter Yellowstone National Park through the Lamar Valley. There are several pullouts that offer the chance to admire the majesty of this place at its best, and you can't miss a short stop for a hot coffee at the Top of The World Café. Remember that the entire route is at high altitude, so it's best to have warm clothing on hand to fully appreciate the spectacular views that the Beartooth Highway offers.
It's hard to describe the emotions you feel along the way: you start climbing gently among cultivated fields and farms, and then tackle the switchbacks that slowly take you higher. The landscapes are breathtaking, with splendid views of numerous alpine lakes and rocky peaks, interspersed with high-altitude tundra and meadows with flowers.
If you're lucky enough to travel it on a beautiful day, as we did, the endless blue sky completes an almost perfect picture.
YELLOWSTONE PARK
Describing and telling about Yellowstone National Park is one of the most difficult tasks you can undertake. It's a vast and beautiful park, full of different and all fascinating attractions. To see it at its best in just one day, it's essential to have an expert guide who will lead you through the route, showing you the main attractions. Personally, I do not recommend visiting by motorcycle due to the massive presence of animals such as bison and bears, which you will easily encounter along the main road. If you are staying at Robin's Nest, you can ask Bob to accompany you. Bob is an expert guide who, aboard his Chevy, will show you all the wonders of the Park.
Entering the park from Cody, the first attraction you will see is the immense Yellowstone Lake, beneath which it is said there is a huge supervolcano that, if it were to erupt, would have disastrous consequences of enormous magnitude. We continue and finally arrive at the park entrance gate managed by the legendary rangers. We enter, and soon the cars in front of us stop... there are some bison walking peacefully on the road. The size of these animals is truly impressive! A little further on, Bob points out the presence of some grizzly bears near the river. We continue and constantly encounter bison on the road or in the adjacent fields, in herds. We stop and continue on foot until we reach the Mud Volcano to see the Dragon's Mouth: a sort of mud volcano from which steam emissions come out, making it look like a dragon's mouth. All around there are pools with thermal water emitting vapors. The area can be explored via a series of suspended wooden walkways. The water, in fact, besides being boiling, is in most cases full of gases that often cause the death of some of the park's animals. We continue the visit until we reach Lookout Point: from here you will have one of the most beautiful views of Yellowstone. After a short walk, you will arrive at this panoramic point from which you will see the stunning Yellowstone Grand Canyon with its impressive waterfall. I assure you that the view is so breathtaking it almost seems unreal, like a postcard! We continue to the Grand Prismatic Spring: the park's most famous spring. The Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest and deepest hot spring in all of Yellowstone Park, but its main feature is not its size, but rather its characteristic coloring due to the presence of bacteria that develop only at very high temperatures and multiply along the edge of the spring, producing colored pigments that give rise to the area's peculiar coloration. Grand Prismatic Spring is not a spectacular solitary natural formation, but nearby there are three smaller ones. These are: the Turquoise Pool, the Opal pool and the Excelsior Geyser Crater, connected to each other by some walkways. We have to leave the springs quickly because we need to head fast towards Old Faithful to witness the eruption of the geyser, which only happens at specific times. Luckily, we arrive in time. There are already many people gathered around the geyser. We wait a few minutes and there it is! The show is very impressive... After the eruption, it's a must to visit the Old Faithful Inn: the oldest hotel in the park, whose construction dates back to the early 1900s. The hotel is truly spectacular, starting from its lobby: huge and entirely made with enormous wooden logs. All around are the hotel's 300 rooms, of which those located in the historic wing are without bathrooms, just as was the tradition of park lodgings.

We leave the Park and head back quickly to Cody because a convivial country-style dinner and the famous Rodeo await us. After dinner, everyone heads to the Stampede to watch the Rodeo.
Everything begins with the American anthem: everyone jumps to their feet with their hand over their heart, a truly moving moment. Then the clowns arrive to entertain the crowd while waiting, until the cowboys come out to ride the bulls. Seeing them live is truly impressive and even more striking is watching the poor clowns try to distract the bull and take some serious hits.
There is also room for women at the rodeo, who try their hand at lassoing calves, and for children who ride the calves.
The atmosphere at the rodeo is authentically American: an experience you absolutely must try!
