WHERE TO SLEEP AND EAT IN SHIRAKAWA-GO

In Shirakawa-go there are no hotels, but only minshuku, that is, traditional inns where you can fully immerse yourself in the authentic Japanese atmosphere.

I recommend staying at Kanja. You will sleep in a traditional Japanese room, consisting of a single space that serves as both living room and bedroom, with tatami flooring and a futon as a bed. This minshuku has, as is tradition, very few rooms that are separated only by a thin wall and closed by the classic sliding door made of wood and paper. The bathroom is shared and dinner is served at 6:00 pm. In your room you will find a yukata, a traditional Japanese garment, which you must wear for dinner. It will be really fun to find yourself with the other Western guests all dressed in yukata. Traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast will be served in the traditional dining room with the hearth, where, of course, you will be seated on the floor on the tatami. It will be a truly unforgettable experience!
